The mission of the cluster is to harness cutting-edge technologies and drive impactful change in healthcare delivery.
The SEARCH project, funded under the HORIZON JU IHI 2023 05 04 call, has recently joined the HealthData4EU cluster, an alliance of EU funded projects working together to make health data in Europe more accessible, secure and interoperable.
Launched in June 2024, the cluster brings together innovative initiatives committed to leveraging advanced technologies to improve patient care and overcome data silos across the European health ecosystem. The cluster was initially composed of six projects funded under the HORIZON HLTH 2022 IND 13 02 call, which focused on scaling up multi party computation, data anonymisation techniques and synthetic data generation.
The cluster has since expanded to include projects funded under SEARCH’s call, HORIZON JU IHI 2023 05 04, which aim to maximise the potential of synthetic data generation in healthcare applications. This expansion helps strengthen collaboration across projects and reinforces the overall impact of the HealthData4EU cluster.
Several projects within the HealthData4EU cluster have already concluded or are approaching completion. Visit their respective project websites to learn more about their main results and achievements:
- SYNTHEMA: Breaking barriers in rare hematological diseases, SYNTHEMA aims to establish a cross-border health data hub. By pioneering AI-based techniques for clinical data anonymisation and synthetic data generation, SYNTHEMA seeks to address data scarcity and fragmentation, paving the way for GDPR-compliant research in this critical area.
- PHASE IV AI: Pioneers synthetic data generation to overcome barriers in data accessibility and privacy. By developing state-of-the-art synthesis methods and privacy-compliant protocols, PHASE IV AI accelerates the adoption of AI-powered tools for preventive healthcare and clinical decision-making.
- SECURED: Spearheading a cross-border health data collaboration ecosystem, SECURED offers a secure collaboration hub for decentralised processing of health data. Through Privacy Preserving Computation techniques such as secure multiparty computation (SMPC) or Homomorphic Encryption (HE) and synthetic data generation, SECURED facilitates innovation in health data analytics and fosters collaboration among stakeholders.
- FLUTE: Revolutionising healthcare data utilisation, FLUTE enhances predictions of aggressive prostate cancer through privacy-preserving AI support to physicians. By minimising unnecessary biopsies, FLUTE improves patient outcomes and reduces healthcare costs.
- PHEMS: Leading the change in paediatric healthcare innovation, PHEMS establishes a decentralised health data ecosystem. By leveraging federated analytics and machine learning, PHEMS transforms paediatric care for children’s hospitals.
- AISym4Med: Aims to develop a platform that will provide healthcare data engineers, practitioners, and researchers access to a trustworthy dataset system augmented with controlled data synthesis for experimentation and modelling purposes. This platform will address data privacy and security by combining new anonymisation techniques, attribute-based privacy measures, and trustworthy tracking systems.
- SYNTHIA: Pioneering multidisciplinary collaboration that will provide a 360° vision on how to advance healthcare applications through synthetic data use. SYNTHIA will tackle the critical need for privacy-preserving data solutions in healthcare by developing validated tools and methods for Synthetic Data Generation across various data types, including laboratory results, clinical notes, genomics, imaging, and mobile health data.
- SEARCH: revolutionising healthcare by harnessing the power of AI, synthetic data generation, and federated learning to drive cutting-edge solutions in medical research and patient care. SEARCH’s mission is to create an integrated, secure, and privacy-preserving ecosystem where healthcare data can be shared and utilised across sectors, unlocking new possibilities in diagnostics, treatment, and personalised medicine.
Beyond the natural synergies among the projects that make up the cluster, SEARCH will play a key role in promoting and disseminating HealthData4EU cluster activities. In this context, SEARCH has already invited all participating projects to take part in the Synthetic Healthcare Data Generation and Clinical Decision Support workshop at IEEE CBMS 2026.
