The Trinity College Dublin team highlights SEARCH innovation in gynaecological cancer research at leading conferences

Over the past months, the Trinity College Dublin (TCD) team has maintained an intense level of international engagement, presenting the SEARCH project at a series of leading scientific conferences in gynaecological cancer research across Europe.

The team presented the project at the Irish Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ISGO) Annual Meeting 2025, held on 5 December 2025 in Cork, Ireland, followed by participation in two key conferences in February 2026: the Irish Association for Cancer Research (IACR) Annual Conference, which took place from 25 to 27 February in Galway, Ireland, and the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO) 2026 Congress, held from 26 to 28 February in Copenhagen, Denmark.

This active period continued into spring with the Trinity St James's Cancer Institute (TSJCI) 13th International Cancer Conference, organised on 14 and 15 April 2026 in Dublin, Ireland, and the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP) Annual Scientific Meeting, which will take place on 13 and 14 May 2026 in Cork, Ireland.

Across these events, the TCD team presented research developed within SEARCH, focusing on the use of synthetic health data and artificial intelligence methods to support prevention, early diagnosis and treatment strategies in gynaecological cancers. The work highlights the potential of privacy preserving synthetic datasets, generated using advanced AI techniques and federated learning, to enable secure, data driven innovation in healthcare.

Clinical studies on gynaecological cancers

TCD is leading two pioneering clinical studies to address specific research questions in cervical and ovarian cancer. The studies aim to demonstrate the feasibility of generating a synthetic structured (tabular) dataset that mimics the structure and statistical patterns of a cervical screening population and ovarian cancer patient cohorts, respectively.

In addition, the TCD team will assess the accuracy and utility of the synthetic data by evaluating its use in modelling screening and biomarker-based triage algorithms for cervical screening, as well as in diagnostic, prognostic and treatment pathways for ovarian cancer.
